Nature's Head Composting Toilet

The Nature's Head Composting Toilet is designed for ease of use and maintenance. The seat is full-sized for comfort. Invented by two long-time sailors to be user friendly in a small footprint, yet strong enough to withstand harsh marine environments, the Nature's head is manufactured with all stainless steel fittings and is Coast Guard certified as an MSD Type III device. It is ideal for environs which do not have AC electricity or plumbing.

The Nature's Head is a separating composting toilet. Liquids go into a bottle which may be emptied separately from the solids. Solid waste goes into a composting bin under the seat. A trap door with a handle, in the seat, keeps the bin closed when the toilet is not being used. An inlet vent, and an outlet vent with an attached fan, facilitate air circulation in the bin which helps speed the composting process. An air hose connects to the outlet vent for ventilation to the outside. The vent fan is low wattage. Running on 12 volts DC, it may be attached to a 12 volt DC power source like a car battery, to AC power with an adapter, or to solar panels. Inside the composting bin, there is a mixing agitator. A handle on the side of the composting bin turns the mixing agitator to aerate the compost heap in the composting bin.

Use of the toilet is easy. For initial use, fill the composting bin with 1-2 gallons of moist peat moss or other organic material (no chemicals please!), open the trap door for use, close the trap door when finished, then give the mixing handle two to three cranks. No muss. No fuss.
